1. Who can participate in the Summer School?
The Summer School is welcoming graduates of both subjects, law and legal informatics, as well as graduates from other disciplines to which IT Law and Legal Informatics are relevant. In exceptional cases, we also accept undergraduates. The Summer School is also open to practitioners from the field of IT Law and Legal Informatics. It is not necessary to be a member at Saarland University to apply. Yet, an essential prerequisite for participation is a distinctive interest in cross-disciplinary and international collaboration.
2. What is the application deadline?
Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.
3. Do I have to present any research contribution of my own at the Summer School?
No. – We also welcome applications from participants who wish to attend the Summer School, but who do not wish to present any contribution of their own.
4. Are graduates, practitioners and other academics eligible to participate in the Summer School?
Whilst only graduates can apply to present their own research contributions, in exceptional cases, undergraduates are also welcome to participate. With them being graduates, the Summer School also welcomes practitioners and academics from all over the world as guests.
5. How many participants will be accepted for participation in the Summer School?
The maximum number of participants is limited to 30.

8. Will accommodation be provided by the host of the Summer School? Where will I be staying during the Summer School?
Participants of the Summer School must organize accommodation themselves – it is not being provided by the Summer School and is not included in the fee. Yet, Saarbrücken provides a large number of excellent hotels. To assist participants, we have reserved hotel rooms at local hotels in various price categories. Former participants have also recommended using Airbnb as an alternative.
9. Who is hosting the Summer School?
The Summer School is being organized by the Institute of Legal Informatics forming part of the Faculty of Law at Saarland University. The managing director of the Institute is Prof. Dr. Georg Borges.
10. Which language will the Summer School be held in?
The Summer School will be held in English. For non-native speakers, this offers a chance to improve their English by following the lectures and taking part in the out-of-class activities. Applicants are not required to hold formal qualifications in English in order to take part in the Summer School.
11. Will I receive a certificate for the participation in the Summer School?
Yes, you will receive a certificate confirming that you have participated in the Summer School. For further information, please have a look at the section concerning the recognition of attendance.
12. Will I receive any confirmation of attendance at the introductory lectures?
To provide evidence of having fulfilled continuing professional training obligations as a "Fachanwalt" in IT Law in accordance with § 15 FAO, we are able to issue a written confirmation of attendance at the introductory lectures.
13. Will the content of the Summer School out-of-class activities be exactly the same as presented on the website?
The out-of-class activities presented online may be subject to changes. Whilst we do our very best to ensure that any information on the website is always accurate and up-to-date, we cannot guarantee that the program will not change until the Summer School is commencing on August 5, 2024.
14. Do I have to adhere to any dress code?
There is no strict dress code, but we suggest business casual style during the Summer School sessions and casual style during the excursions. Please prepare for changeable weather – it will definitely not snow in August, yet, sunshine, rain and temperatures ranging from 15 to 35°C are all possible in Germany’s central European climate.
